Beyond This
Beyond This is a specialized coaching service and community organization dedicated to helping couples find their way back to intimacy and connection after a life-altering disability, such as a stroke or major injury.
Who we are and where we come from
Brandon and Lindsey Taylor first met at age 12 and spent twenty years building a life together. Brandon was a relationship coach fascinated by the mechanics of love; Lindsey was a People and Culture leader dedicated to helping human beings thrive.
"My mama always said, 'Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.'" — Forrest Gump
In 2017, a massive stroke fundamentally rewired their world. In a single afternoon, Lindsey became sole provider and primary caregiver for a house full of children ranging from newborn to high school age — holding the weight of their entire world alone while Brandon was physically present but unreachable.
Physically present but unreachable.
Through eight years of recovery and counting, they discovered a devastating gap. Therapists focused on survival — rebuilding Brandon's ability to breathe, swallow, and speak — but after discharge, they realized the bridge being built for them stopped halfway across the canyon. No one offered guidance on how to move from patient and caregiver back to husband and wife, or how to reclaim the intimacy, touch, and connection that make the grueling work of recovery worth it.
So they built the rest of the bridge themselves. Brandon used his background in relationship dynamics to fight his way back to being a partner and lover. Lindsey applied her leadership instincts to restructure their family's whole life. They learned that medicine can fix a body, but it often fails to equip us to mend the connections we rely on to truly thrive.
Beyond This exists to finish that bridge for others. As a survivor-caregiver duo, Brandon and Lindsey provide the missing support for families living with disability — because recovery is incomplete until it leads back to the bits of life that matter most.
Beyond This is not a clinical practice. We are coaches, facilitators, and advocates. We do not diagnose or treat medical conditions; instead, we partner with individuals and families to navigate the human experience that exists after the crisis. We focus on the "why" of living, providing the relational coaching and human-systems support that enable and elevate successful clinical outcomes.
We understand that lived experience is a form of expertise that cannot be taught in a classroom. Our authority is rooted in our own recovery journey. This peer-led model is backed by the science of shared experience, offering a level of trust and practical insight that creates unique psychological safety for clients. We aren't just experts; we are witnesses to the possibility of thriving.
